It's National Lightning Safety Awareness Week! June 20-26, 2021
Although, lightning may be fascinating to watch, it is extremely dangerous. Lighting injures hundreds of people every year in the United States, and has killed an average of 25 people per year over the last 10 years.
When thunderstorms are in the area, there is no safe place outdoors. Lightning can strike up to 10-15 miles away from the storm. If you hear thunder, you are most likely within striking distance of the storm.
If you're outside, monitor the conditions and get inside to a safe place before the weather becomes threatening.
