Sheriff Strong, Judge Keith Marquart, Judge Ronald Taylor and Western Commissioner Ron Hook have come up with this pilot program to allow inmates serving time in Buchanan County jail for minor offences, to get out and work off some of the time they are serving. This will reduce the jail population which will lower the cost budgeted to manage inmates, prevent over-crowding, and lessen liability within the jail.
The inmate will get his/her sentence reduced if in good standing after 30 days in this program and allows that inmate to get back into their job to support their family.
The county roads get a through pick-up of trash, litter, tires, etc. from the roads. Beautifies the roads and prosecutes those that use our county roads as a dump site.
The totals from April 15th to May 6th are: 238 bags of litter, 34 bags of alum. cans, and 101 tires. The county has recycled the aluminum cans and scrap metal for total revenue received of $254.50. This helps to pay for the bags and other supplies needed to run this program.
If you have a road that is in need of attention, please call Ron Hook at 816-271-1502.
